| Resumo Após fazer-se um estudo sobre aspectos gerais de familias, gêneros e algumas espécies de Gymnotoidei e outros peixes elétricos amazônicos, bem como sobre seus habitats e hábitos de vida, analisam-se os órgãos elétricos e respectivas descargas em várias espécies. Procuram estabelecer-se as funções da descarga do órgão elétrico. (DOE) na vida do animal, correlacionando-se a mesma com o comportamento e outros eventos. Em seguida, estuda-se a eletrorrecepção, seus órgãos dos sentidos especiais e processamento cerebral, inclusive o uso de eletrorrecepção por peixes não elétricos. Conclui-se o trabalho, Interpretando-se o possível significado ecológico e prático dos fatos observados. |

| Resumo Neste trabalho são discutidas a alimentação e a reprodução de 20 espécies de peixes coletadas no igarapé do Porto, Aripuanã, MT, no início do período chuvoso. Baseado nas análises do conteúdo estomacal e algumas vezes intestinal, discute-se a distribuição das espécies nos diversos biótopos estudados, mudanças de hábitos alimentares e preferência por determinado tipo de alimento dentro de vários níveis tróficos: consumidores primários, secundários e terciários. São incluídas ainda, algumas observações sobre a época de reprodução das espécies estudadas. |

| Resumo São apresentados os dados de que a infecção malárica no Amazonas vem decrescendo desde 1973, exceto nas localidades de construção ou abertura das estradas BR-174 (Manaus/Boa Vista) e BR-319 (Manaus/Porto Velho). Na primeira a malária vem apresentando um foco endêmico, com casos de P. falciparum resistente a drogas e Anopheles darlingi exibindo um comportamento de resistência ao DDT. Desde 1974 a maioria dos casos de infecção vem sendo tratada nos ambulatórios e enfermarias do Hospital de Moléstias Tropicais de Manaus, de onde originam a maioria dos dados, os quais são apresentados mensal e anualmente dando a espécie de plasmódio. a idade e o sexo dos indivíduos. Verificou-se que mais de 56% dos casos de malária diagnosticados no referido hospital... |

| Physiological reactions of sea-basses juveniles (2-6 months) have been followed in laboratory after transfer to different salinities during Summer 1976 and 1977 : hyperhaline : 41 %. , euhaline : 30 %. , mesohaline medium : 9-10 %o , and oligohaline environments : 1-3%o . A lot of fish has been acclimated ina lagoon, at Certes, to 15-20, of salinity. The evolution of gill ATPases activities (Na+ + K+ and Mg2+ ) was followed. Results show different Na+ - K+ ATPase levels, in relationship with the salinity : - at 30 and 42 %c, the level is high at the beginning of Summer (22,3 _+ 2,8 moles Pi . mg Prot -1 . h-1 decreases at the end of Summer (10,8 _+ 0,5) then increases in the fall (30,0 +_ 4,7) ; - at 10 %=, , the enzyme's activity level is steadily low,... |

| Some aspects of the biology and of the ecology of larvae and post-larvae of lobster (Homarus sp) are summarized in order to illustrate the purposes of retocking trials carried out on each side of the Atlantic Ocean. Canadian and American experiments are analysed : the conclusions that can be drawn as well as those that cannot be drawn from these experiments are discussed. | Over the years, several have assessed the impacts of changes in agricultural technology. In most studies, the emphasis has been on evaluating the economic impacts of technology. In most studies, the emphasis has been on evaluating the economic impacts of technological change with little consideration of the secondary and tertiary distributional impacts of such change. This article uses partial equilibrium analysis to estimate the gross and net social rates of return arising from proposed mechanization of strawberry harvesting in Oregon. The discussion considers other factors not explicitly accounted for in the economic model, (e.g., social and technical) but which are likely to have repercussions on the estimated social rates of return. |

| The four main Irish smolt farms have contributed to the development of adult salmon fishing in fixed estuarine fisheries. But the "re-catches" currently take place at an insufficient rate compared with the economic norms of a "sea-ranching" operation. | The focus in this paper is to identify characteristics which distinguish enterprises of operators who sold wool privately from those who sold at auction. The "t" tests on differences in means revealed that private sales tend to be associated with small woolproducing enterprises. In Western Australia, the further removed enterprises are from an auction selling centre the lower the probability of a private sale. In the Eastern States, the probability of a private sale was higher during the period of supply management in 1974-75, the average level of indebtedness to pastoral companies was lower for those enterprises from which wool was sold privately and traditional ties to wool selling brokers were apparently important in the 1974-75 wool selling season,... |
